Bahrain Flag  FORMULA 1 CHINESE GRAND PRIX

Properly thought through by the great architects Tilke and Wahl, the Shanghai International Circuit was given the shape of the Chinese character Shang. Meaning “high”, this symbol gives true meaning to the elevated wing-like structures that makes up the grandstands of this magnificent track. The venue where the Chinese Grand Prix takes place surely goes above and beyond for an optimal spectator experience – become amazed by top speeds through a 1.4-kilometre straight and skillfully mastered turns inside the Shang.

Shanghai International Circuit History

The Shanghai International Circuit opened in 2004. Its construction is said to have cost an eye-watering 450 million dollars, designed by the Shanghai authorities as a way to show off the city to the world.

The circuit’s architects Tilke and Wahl faced an initial construction challenge due to the site previously having been used as rice paddy fields. As a result, extensive groundworks were carried out to make the Shanghai International Circuit what it is today.
